Alice Austen was an early adopter of new technologies, starting with the first glass-plate camera she ever worked with. Through experimentation, she taught herself how to operate the complex camera mechanism, judge exposure, develop the heavy glass plates, and make prints. In the years since the invention of the camera, photographic technology has advanced from a long, exhaustive process to an everyday activity. Come take a deep-dive into the timeline of photography from the daguerreotype to the digital picture, marveling at the art of the camera with hands-on demonstrations, family activites and displays of vintage cameras. This event is free with admission and suitable for all ages. Bring the whole family!
