Calling all mermaids, mermen, and salty sea captains! Join us for the second event of MoMA PopRally × New York, a creative journey across New York City. From Staten Island to the Bronx, we’re heading to each of the five boroughs to explore local art, music, food, film, and more while MoMA is temporarily closed for renovations.
On July 27, PopRally washes up on Staten Island’s north shore to celebrate the borough and the surrounding sea. Co-presented by Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Rooftop Films, the evening will culminate in a screening of Splash, the 1984 classic about a mermaid in Manhattan, starring Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks. Before the film, enjoy trivia contests, prize giveaways, local food vendors, and a set by DJ Tom of Maker Park Radio and special appearances by The Gotham Easy Brass Band courtesy of Honk NYC and the Wu Tang Clams mermaid krewe.
Tickets are $10 (free for MoMA members and children 16 and under) and include open bar (21+), DJ set, festivities, and film screening. Beer is provided by Five Boroughs Brewing Co. Food by local Staten Island vendors Ho’ Brah Tacos and Egger’s Ice Cream Parlor will be available for purchase. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., with the screening to follow at 9:00. A free shuttle bus will run between the Staten Island Ferry terminal and Snug Harbor before and after the film. Aquatic costumes are highly encouraged, but not required. Rain date is July 28.
