Old Timers, New Starts celebrates the art of labor. Raul Barquet and Alyssa Rapp combine the disciplines of typography and film photography to create composite darkroom prints that document and highlight the essential role of small business in the Staten Island community. Barquet and Rapp have spent years interviewing interview small businesses on Staten Island, those that are generations old and those that are fresh ventures for new Americans. Please join the collaborators as they release a book of their interviews and artwork and sneak preview prints to be shown at The Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in February of 2020. The event will also host a panel discussion about local commerce and community building with small business owners featured in the project.
