This 5K is held on a USA Track and Field Certified course for competitive runners, but all are welcome to participate. The race takes place on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Gardens.

Tracking chips, race bibs, and race statistics are available to runners in each age category. Registering as a walker gives you a race bib with number but does not include tracking and statistics. Registration also includes a race t-shirt.

Wambui Ippolito is the horticulturist and principal designer of her own New York based landscape design firm. She is a graduate of the New York Botanical Garden’s School of Professional Horticulture.

Old Timers, New Starts celebrates the art of labor. Raul Barquet and Alyssa Rapp combine the disciplines of typography and film photography to create composite darkroom prints that document and highlight the essential role of small business in the Staten Island community. Barquet and Rapp have spent years interviewing interview small businesses on Staten Island, those that are generations old and those that are fresh ventures for new Americans. Please join the collaborators as they release a book of their interviews and artwork and sneak preview prints to be shown at The Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in February of 2020. The event will also host a panel discussion about local commerce and community building with small business owners featured in the project.

NYC Winter Lantern Festival at Snug Harbor

Described by NPR as a “cure for alienation” and “music that’s not about means to ends but about meaning and transcendence,” New York-based Falsa is a cathartic musical experience rooted in 14th century Sufi music of North India and Pakistan, and developed into a chamber fusion ensemble, a diverse group of extraordinary improvisational musicians dedicated to craft.

The evening begins at 6:30 PM with cocktails, a light supper, and a chance to view the lots.  The auction of fine art immediately follows.  Guests are encouraged to enjoy coffee, cordials, and dessert after the bidding.  Catering by Framboise, led by Chef Frank Puleo, will once again cater the event.

 Tickets are $100 each, or $90 for museum members.

 The auction block features 45 works of art, including antique and contemporary paintings, prints, photographs, and objects.

The Tale of the Matron is a historic walking tour and recount of events that took place at Snug Harbor in 1863. You’ll enter three buildings that are typically closed to the public: the Matron’s House, the Butcher’s Cottage, and the former Surgeon’s House (now known as the Governors House). Each space has its own unique connection with history, life and the afterlife.
